Virginia Folkestad creates viewer participatory, conceptual Installations. A fascination with materials, which began with toothpick sculptures as a child, has led to the combined use of steel, fibers, aluminum mesh, wax, concrete, thread and more.

Her award winning work (twice the recipient of the Colorado Council on the Arts Fellowship in Visual Arts and two artist grants from the United States Department of State) has been exhibited in many national and international venues where it was recently shown at the Andy Warhol Museum, Medzilaborce, Slovakia. Her work has been shown nationally in California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Montana, Nebraska, Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming and extensively in Colorado.

She has recently completed Current 3, a viewer activated, public art Light Installation on the Wynkoop Bridge for the Denver Colorado LoDoLights festival.

Folkestad serves on the Board of Directors for the DAM Contemporaries, a support organization of the Denver Art Museum. She was an Artist-in-Residence at Red Line Denver from 2008-2011.
