Artists' Footprints
Opening Reception: July 8th from 6-10 pm.

Artists' Footprints explores the boundaries of art and life through innovative systems of creation and production. Throughout this exhibition, artists compost, grow, reuse, and gather supplies to reduce their carbon footprint. Inspired by simple ways of living and creating across the world from Ecuador to Mongolia, artists offer alternatives to over-consumption.

Artists Footprints features works by: Jessica Moon Bernstein, Michael Brohman, Jane daPain, Fallen Fruit, Tsehai Johnson, David Kahn, Rian Kerrane, Rori Knudtson, Peter Menzel, Michael Reynolds, Musci, Patricia Tinajero and Amy Youngs. The exhibition is presented in partnership with the Biennial of the Americas and curated by RedLine artist in residence Viviane Le Courtois.

RedLine’s mission can be understood as three dynamic, fluid, concentric circles - art, education and community service - that overlap, flowing into each other and outwards into the surrounding space.

First, RedLine recruits emerging and mid-career visual artists to engage in the artistic process through active studio practice, reflection, collegial dialogue and communal involvement centered at RedLine. RedLine participates in challenging exhibition programs that provide strong connections to the institutional and critical vanguards of contemporary art

The second “circle” at the core of our mission is the mandate to connect RedLine’s artists and its resources to the larger community in which we are embedded. We believe in the transformative power of art and we are committed to bringing that vision - as well as practical strategies for its realization - to the “neighborhood.”

RedLine is developing interdisciplinary educational programs specifically geared to engaging various segments of the community in ongoing creative collaborations - often linked directly to our exhibitions. Our exhibitions in turn, are related to the larger social and communal issues that art has a unique capacity to address and impact.

Third, RedLine is especially committed to cultivating educational outreach programs and events that will be responsive to homeless or “displaced” populations, to teenagers, and to local school curricula. RedLine will be a “safe place” for the community to express it's creativity, collaborate with artists on projects that directly impact their lives, and to be exposed to processes and strategies for inventive problem solving and creative teamwork.

Through utilizing artists to serve the community as educators, mentors and inspired examples of the tangible – and intangible – benefits of creative expression, RedLine, in turn, inspires and helps to create new generations of cultural and civic transformers. We are an urban laboratory that seeks to stimulate and ignite the creative potential of the community to which we are linked through art, education, dialogue and social responsiveness.
