Techniques can be adopted that help people dive deeper than the ordinary cognitive state of consciousness that is the usual mode for interaction in our culture.
With this series, I hope to open the door to discussions on how we can connect to our innermost creative consciousness to enhance our art making and achieve a balanced mind and body.
In the Part 2 video below, we will explore how modern pharmaceuticals disconnect us from achieving creative consciousness. What Indigenous medicines can we look to, to enhance our connectivity with self and our creativity?

Well, hello again. It's me, Denise The Vamp DeVille Zubizarreta, and this is “Where Are The Boundaries?” A limited series in partnership with RedLine Contemporary Art Center.
Today we're talking modern pharmaceuticals and indigenous plant medicine and how they both affect our creative consciousness.
There's lots of ways to expand your consciousness. Some do it through meditation or breathing techniques, but a lot of people also say that psychedelics can expand your consciousness to a whole new level.
Drugs like LSD, MDMA and ketamine are being used more and more to work through depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Psychedelics like ayahuasca and psilocybin, which are found in some mushrooms, have been around long before modern pharma's psychedelic options.
Though all of these psychedelics can be used with a spiritual journey through consciousness in mind, indigenous plant medicines and rituals come with a generational respect for the process.
Psychedelics have been said to showcase other layers of reality that are often missed by our simplified understanding of consciousness. Many artists have captured their psychedelic journeys with their artwork that takes creative consciousness to a whole new level.
Want to take a deeper dive into how artists explore psychedelics? Check on my article in Hyperallergic: “Artists Discuss How Psychedelics Influence Their Work.”
We are more ignorant about consciousness than we are distant galaxies that formed 10 billion years ago, more ignorant about consciousness than we are about the inner nucleus of an atom.
Why? Because we're not looking.
Can psychedelics take us to a whole new world? What can they teach us about reality's boundaries? Could they even help with creative blocks? We'll talk more about that in our next episode, where we cover mental health and the creative rut.
How do you achieve creative consciousness? Let us know in the comments!
Don't forget to join me and our amazing panelists on April 22nd, 11:00 AM Mountain, 10:00 AM Pacific, and 1:00 PM Eastern on Zoom and Instagram as we dive further into creative consciousness. To learn more about Where Are The Boundaries and our upcoming panel, check out www.redlineart.org.
