This exhibition creates an emergency placeholder for a lost past and an unknown future. It forges a path through closures and cancellations, delays and uncertainties, that left many ideas without a place to land. The participating artists have explored, in a word, the half-life that we are all living. We join them in their processing of the pandemic. Whether it is Sidney Masuga’s mural, which uses a solar calendar to mark this moment in human history, or Emilie Trice’s punching bags to help us express the anger, pain, and grief that we collectively hold; each work helps us to work through this moment not knowing what the next will bring.
Participating Artists: Carol Bivins, Leslie D. Boyd, Megan Bray, Mindy Bray, Kristina Davies, Madison DeYoung & Connor Deniston, A. Miriam Green, Kevin Hoth, Addie Kae, Marina Kassianidou, Shamai Mading, Heidi Mason, Sydney Lee, Sidney Masuga, Elizabeth Morisette, Alex Paozols, Matthew Pevear, Markus Puskar, Elisabeth Relin, Martha Russo, Kelley Shei, Ben Siekierski, Emilie Trice, Beth Van De Water, Genevieve Waller, Rosario Weston, Kate Wilker.
This exhibition is part of Checking In, a state-wide collaboration designed to provide platforms of connection between artists, curators, businesses, cultural institutions and communities who have been in isolation but collectively have space or creative works to offer and/or exchange.
