The Fog of Memory is a two-person exhibition of fiber/photo works and paintings by two artists, Nicholas D’Ornellas (Jersey City, NJ) and Toni Gallo, (Minneapolis, MN) who mine the depths of memory and experience to reveal moments of intimacy and tenderness.
In this time of uncertainty and anxiety, their work reminds us of our shared humanity and offers a quiet recognition of the resilience of the human spirit. Each artist considers how time, whether it be non-linear or linear, contributes to our sense of “self.”
Toni writes of her work “each one (painting) is a different path to the same place. They express captured experiences of connectivity as the eternal present unrolls in its nonlinear nature, connected to past, future and everything in between.”
For Nick, revisiting the past allows him to re-contextualize it. He writes “ I am attempting to physically thread together the sadness, anxieties, happiness, and vulnerability that comes with being within a deeply consuming family structure. Sometimes, simply rehearsing a memory can be exactly what makes it susceptible to change.”
This exhibition is part of Checking In, a state-wide collaboration designed to provide platforms of connection between artists, curators, businesses, cultural institutions and communities who have been in isolation but collectively have space or creative works to offer and/or exchange.
