Los Fantasmas Artist Collective (LFAC) was developed in the late 1990s by Carlos Fresquez, Tony Diego, Ismael Lozano and Josiah Lopez as a response to the local art scene's treatment of BIPOC artists as “fantasmas” (ghosts) or “the unseen.”
Since then, Los Fantasmas has grown into a multigenerational community of nine dedicated Chicana/o, Indigenous, and Raza artists. Since it's inception, Los Fantasmas has dedicated itself to elevating and supporting local unseen and under resourced artists.
Throughout its long history, LFAC has organized events and exhibits such as Urban Decay, which transformed the Chicano Arts and Humanities Council Gallery into a vision that reflected the decay of the urban Chicano Neighborhood in which it was located.
It has participated in exhibits and panel discussions at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center in Pueblo Colorado, curated a Dia de Muertos Exhibit and community discussion in Trinidad Colorado at the Corazon Gallery, and collaborated with youth organizations such as Colorado Circles for Change, Gang Rescue and Support Project, and the Denver Juvenile Diversion to facilitate classes for youth to participate in art exhibits alongside established artists.
Los Fantasmas’ most recent exhibit, On the Rise, was a showcase of women and non-binary artists of color and was held at the collective’s new home, Yolia Art space in Englewood, Colorado.
Los Fantasmas looks forward to utilizing this new space in support of its vision and mission to build community and opportunity for unseen artists.
