Sam Grabowska - “Untitled: Creative Fusions” Art Event

Photographer: Jeremiah Corder

What: Live Art Event
Where: Denver Art Museum - 100 W 14th Ave. Pkwy, Denver, Colorado
When: July 29, 6-10pm MST
Tickets: For purchase here >

About the event: Join RedLine Resident Artist Sam Grabowska along with multimedia artist Javier Flores and a cast of contributing creatives for the next Untitled: Creative Fusions. They’ll collectively explore the theme of "restos/remnant/resztka," the traces of ourselves we leave behind for future generations and how we prevent our erasure from history.

Untitled: Creative Fusions is an after-hours quarterly event with local artists and creatives full of dynamic and one-of-a-kind experiences. Live performances can include music, dance, spoken-word, theatrical, fashion shows, and much more.

Pop-up installations are displayed throughout the museum, allowing you to view unique artworks from our creative partners. Collaborative artmaking stations—with guidance from professional artists—encourage you to engage your own creativity. Each event features several interactive moments, inviting you to become a part of the evening's festivities yourself.

About the artist: Sam Grabowska was born to two Polish parents some years ago. As a child, Sam built forts in their backyard. As an adolescent, they found home in marginal spaces like overgrown fields and abandoned smelters. In their 20s they studied film, architecture, and cultural anthropology culminating in two bachelor degrees, a Master's, and a Ph.D. Now, as a recovering academic, Sam works in photography, film, and architectural sculpture exploring the ways in which historically marginalized people find refuge in this odd world. They are particularly interested in the multi-sensory elements of space that can help heal trauma.

Sandra Fettingis - Installation

Tomorrow's Food, Painted aluminum, acrylic and LED's, 12x24x7', 2022. Photo credits: CSU Spur.

What: Installation
Where: CSU Spur Terra Building
When: Opened June 8.

Resident Artist Alumni Sandra Fettingis has an installation at the new CSU campus Terra Building. The piece is a suspended light sculpture on the 4th floor, focusing on food and agriculture.

The concept of "Tomorrow's Food" offers an enlarged close-up experience of the growing vertical farm movement with organic inspired graphic elements and a palette rooted in traditional and modern agriculture.

Nodding to the plant growth cycle in vertical composition and green gradient, the layered and cascading piece also signals the 4th-floor terrace gardens, connecting directly to the building activity and architecture.

Adri Norris - Mural Painting

What: Mural painting
Where: Lucky Pie Pizza and Taphouse - 637 Front St, Louisville, CO 80027
When: June-July 31, 2022

In June and July, current RedLine Resident Artist Adri Norris will be painting a mural on the back of Lucky Pie in Louisville.

About the artist: Adrienne (Adri) Norris was born in Barbados and moved to the United States at the age of 5. She has lived in New York, New Mexico, attended a boarding school in Italy, joined the Marines and finally settled down in Denver. Not exactly the path one expects, but Norris has made it work. Being a Black, queer, immigrant woman has shaped the way she views and interacts with the world, and it is this experience that she uses in her art. In 2016, Norris experienced a shift from painting pretty pictures to using her artwork to share the stories of the marginalized, providing background information about the things we use, the policies that help and hurt us and the reasons our lives are the way they are.

Melody Epperson - “Discover the Covered: The Artist Process” Solo Exhibition

What: Solo show
Where: Next Gallery — 6501 W Colfax Ave, Lakewood, CO, 80214
When: June 24-July 10, 2022
Opening reception: Friday, June 24th, 5-10pm MST

About the event: “Most people think creating art is somewhat of a mystery. Discover the Covered: The Artist Process digs into the complex and mysterious thoughts inside the artist’s mind as she prepares for the exhibition. It de-mystifies the process and turns it into the artwork itself. Epperson is somewhat unique in that the process she uses to create work is almost as significant as the work itself. Her creative process begins with curiosity, then research and the discovery of new ideas and finally moving to the studio for the creative act.”

About the artist: Melody Epperson's artwork focuses on her experience as a woman, both in society and within her own skin. Her creative process is central in her artwork. It starts when she becomes curious about a concept, she then reflects on it or investigates the idea and finally she takes creative action. This is evident in Epperson’s recent body of artwork, where she investigates the interconnection of all living things. In both series’ Epperson investigates the wisdom of nature. We can better understand our own interconnection through their example.
