Myra Nagy: Month of Printmaking Student Exhibition Group Exhibition

About the exhibition: 40 West Gallery is thrilled to present the 2024 Colorado Student Printmaking Showcase. This is a special exhibition of student work coinciding with Mo’Print (the “Month of Printmaking”) in March 2024. The world of printmaking is vast and varied, including woodcuts, metal plate etching, lithography (etching stones), free-form ‘mono’ prints, and more!
About the Artist: I am an older woman inspired to not give up on life and to strive in everything I do to achieve my goals. I want a business to run from home. Helping the homeless community in Denver is important to me as well. I like creating videos and blogging about experiences, new information, and lessons learned. I am motivated to put information on the web hoping it will help others.
I am a creator. I create art, make bags, purses, bookmarks, and more. I do this for therapy but hope to sell some of the items I make. I also like to write. Occasionally, I post little writings and blogs. I hope to one day be an author and see my work read by other creative people. I believe my art is a form of therapy because of my lived experience. I want to share my passion for different causes in my artwork.

Carolyn Pooler - Remembering the Future Mo-Print Open Studio Tour

About the studio tour: REACH Core Artist Alumni Carolyn Pooler is an artist, poet, advocate participating in the Mo-Print Open Studio Tour on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Gallery 502.
The exhibit is titled Remembering the Future, which features prints of varied processes from 2018 to the present day. Originally, the work was scheduled for Open Portfolio Review 2020 (that same year, Pooler graduated from RMCAD with her BFA). But art galleries closed, and shows were cancelled. Generously, The Warhol Foundation and RedLine Contemporary Art Center provided artist support during this time, and Carolyn decided the idea of an at-home workspace made more sense than ever. In her practice, the artist gravitates toward printmaking and publishing.
Her esoteric art magazines are of such limited editions that only one issue may ever be printed. Branding and commercialism are a strict no, concerning this artist’s vision. She would like to see the work displayed in the hands of those who really can’t afford art at commercial gallery prices. Pooler rejects the system: “This is a rare and private, condensed look at my art. It is a Vision, not a Brand.”

Tony Ortega - Connection to the Land Group Exhibition

About the exhibition: Land is a common link between all people. It influences all aspects of life. Spirituality, cultural identity, family and a sense of place can all be tied to the land.
This exhibition will feature prints from the Loveland Museum’s art collection, as well as original prints from Denver artist Tony Ortega. Drawing from his cultural connection to the land, Ortega will lead students in two different workshops in the Print Shop at the Beet Education Center. During this artist residency, students will create their own artwork as they explore their personal connection to the land.
Tony Ortega - Estampas de Nepantla Solo Exhibition

About the exhibition: Nepantla is a concept used in Chicano and Mexican art and literature. It represents a perception of "in-between-ness." Nepantla is a Nahuatl (language of the Aztecs) word which means "in the middle of it" or "middle." It may refer specifically to the space between two figurative or literal bodies of water. In contemporary usage, Nepantla often refers to space between two cultures. But for me, Nepantla is not fixed geopolitical site it is a state of mind or maybe a metaphor as inspiration.
About the artist: Tony Ortega holds an MFA in drawing and painting from the University of Colorado and is currently a professor for Regis University. He is the recipient of the coveted Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts (1999) and the Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts (1998). He has been a working artist and teacher for the past 36 years. Tony Ortega’s lifelong goal is to contribute to a better understanding of cultural diversity by addressing the culture, history and experiences of Chicanos/Latinos through his art. His work can be found in Denver Art Museum, Los Angeles County Museum and the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center. He has exhibited extensively in United States, Latin America and other parts of the world. Tony’s artwork can be found in Denver, Colorado at the William Havu Gallery.

Taiko Chandler - Proving Ground A Group Exhibition

About the exhibition: Celebrating Month of Printmaking though the two person show with RedLine Alumni Taiko Chandler and artist Diane Cionni, Steamboats Spring based artist.
About the artist: Taiko Chandler lives and works in Denver, CO. She was born and raised in Nagano, Japan and was originally trained as a nurse. Today, she works primarily in printmaking and, more recently, site-specific installation art. Her work has been exhibited in Colorado (most recently a solo show at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art), Texas and New Mexico, as well as at numerous print fairs throughout the U.S. Her work is in private and public collections in the U.S. and Japan, including the Cleveland Clinic Art Program, University of Colorado Denver Business school, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (NY) and the Denver Art Museum (Education Collection).

Lares Feliciano - hum/swell A Group Exhibition

About the exhibition: A meditative multimedia journey by Lares Feliciano & Bothe Kretsinger. hum/swell is a hyper collage created by artist duo doombox. Using photographs and sounds from around the San Luis Valley, hum/swell takes viewers on a multisensory ride that questions time and space. Artists Lares Feliciano and Bothe Kretsinger create installations, murals, and immersive experiences under the moniker doombox. Their work has shown at the Denver Art Museum, Meow Wolf Denver, and The Storeroom. Most recently they created Muggins Mirage, a mixed media mural commission for the Maven Hotel in Downtown Denver.
About the artist: Lares Feliciano is an animator, filmmaker, collaborator, and curator. She holds an M.F.A in Cinema Production from San Francisco State University and a B.A. in Film & American Studies from Smith College. She has served as the Artist in Residence at Grand Canyon National Park and was a participant in the Colorado Creative Industries Change Leader Institute. Her films have screened all over the world including New York, San Francisco, Berlin, London, and Melbourne. She is a member of the Secret Love Collective, a group of contemporary artists who create exhibitions and events in Colorado.
Lares believes in the power of storytelling to both empower and incite change. Using film/video, animation, collage, and mixed media she creates worlds where “queerdos and weirdos” are front and center. She is interested in queer identities, mixed-race experiences, and complex expressions of grief.
