Westword Highlights "Living Land" & RedLine's Artist Residency

We’re thrilled that Denver Westword recently covered our 2025 Resident Artist exhibition, Living Land!

Westword has long been a trusted voice in Denver’s arts and culture scene. Their article explores the ways in which Living Land reflects the urgency of the climate crisis, and pushes viewers to consider how the environment intersects with culture and shapes identity.

Curated by Jane Burke, Living Land showcases so many thought-provoking pieces—including Phillip StearnsPlasticine, a speculative work that imagines the future artifacts we may leave behind, and Leilani Derr’s Yogen no tori, which uses vibrant mythology to highlight the pressing concerns of our time.

Throughout the exhibition, current RedLine Residents and 2022-2024 Alumni challenge us to think about the world we’re creating for future generations.

“This idea of letting the land live again is a message that feels urgent.”
— Jane Burke (Curator)

In the article, Westword also recognizes how RedLine’s Artist Residency provides a space for emerging artists to take creative risks and develop their practice without commercial pressure.

This truth is manifest in how Living Land artists used this freedom to produce work that pushes boundaries and sparks meaningful conversations.
