Katie Caron - The Anatomy of Nature Solo Exhibition
What: Solo exhibition
Where: Plinth Gallery - 3520 Brighton Blvd, Denver, CO, 80216
When: April 4-May 5, 2025
Opening Reception: Friday, April 4th, 6-9pm
About the exhibition: “In Anatomy of Nature, I explore the intricate connections between art, science, nature, and trauma. My new porcelain sculptures and lightboxes merge human anatomy with botanical forms, medical tubing, and abstract organic structures, creating a visual dialogue on the body's emotional response to trauma.
“Light pulses through delicate porcelain, mimicking the fragility and resilience of living organisms. By fusing the natural with the medical, I seek to reveal the ways trauma is both held and transformed within the body, blurring the boundaries between internal and external landscapes.”
About the artist: Katie Caron is presently Director and Department Chair for the Art & Design Center at Arapahoe Community College. Caron graduated from Boston University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in English Education and minor in Theater Arts.
Caron exhibits nationally, completing site-specific installations for Project Miami, Santa Fe Art Institute, University of Michigan, Bowling Green State University, University of Northern Colorado, Redline Art Space, Republic Plaza, Meow Wolf and the University of Colorado Center for Bioethics. She was recently reviewed in Daria Magazine for her solo exhibition Neuron Forest at the Dairy Art Center, in the September 2023 issue. Caron resides in Littleton with her family.

Javier Flores - Puertograbando: Southern Graphics Conference International Attendee
What: Conference attendee
Where: San Juan, Puerto Rico
When: April 2-5, 2025
About the conference: “Set against the captivating backdrop of San Juan, Puerto Rico, we announce an inclusive conference experience for our members and Caribbean printmakers. Our new vision is to delve into and appreciate the vibrant history of printmaking in the Caribbean through bilingual demonstrations and panel discussions in English and Spanish. Embracing inclusivity, we intend to extend invitations to local Puerto Rican artisans to participate in our vendor fair, enhancing the event with an extraordinary art market.”
About the artist: Born in Denver, Colorado, to Mexican immigrants, Javier Flores is the eldest of 3 kids. Raised in a blue collar, middle to lower income level household in Brighton, Colorado, helped to instill strong work ethic, honesty, and integrity.
At age 19, Javier was shot in the lower back and subsequently paralyzed. Initially in shock and depressed, he became distant and suicidal. He was thankfully saved by family, friends, visual arts, and martial arts.
As an artist, Flores chooses to associate with the idea of Lenguaje Vulgar, or vulgar language, a reference to cussing in Spanish. The connection of imagery to language is a symbolic reference to the visual lexicon he continues to expand to explore the daily hindrance of his disability among other issues.
As a visual artist, Flores pursues a variety of mediums to best translate the biographical narrative approach to image and form making.

Elle Hong- Performance Art Week XIII Performance
What: Performance
Where: Emmanuel Art Gallery - 1205 10th St Plaza, Denver, CO, 80204
When: Thursday, April 17, 2025, 5pm
About the performance: “lightness has a call that’s hard to hear.” considers how external interactions shape our internal (self-)perceptions and vice versa. A performer comes out of a closet repeatedly, considering how introductions can be revealing, and simultaneously reveal even more about what is being withheld. How can we utilize the performance space as an ephemeral site for externalizing desires for transformation?
Through dance, audience participation, and choral orchestration, the artist sets forth intentions for embodying lightness while demonstrating the certain impossibilities of disentangling lightness from darkness and/or heaviness.
About the artist: Elle Hong (she/her) is an antidisciplinary artist currently based in Cheyenne/Ute/Arapaho territories (Denver, CO). She holds an MFA in Dance and a Graduate Certificate in Emergent Technologies & Media Arts Practice from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a BA in Dance & Sociology from Wesleyan University.
Elle’s work spans across dance, media arts, text, sound, and pedagogy, often employing queer/diasporic collaging techniques for creating performances that reenvision history and form. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally, including the Thessaloniki Queer Arts Festival, SPEKTRUM Berlin, Asian Arts Initiative (Philadelphia, PA), ODC Theater (San Francisco, CA),BMoCA (Boulder, CO), among others.
