DiaspoRican

While the interviews and art-making will happen all over Northern Colorado, the culmination of the project will exist as an online multimedia archive. The website will include images, recordings, and animations of each interviewee, showcasing the diverse experiences that make up the Puerto Rican diaspora living in Colorado. The goal is create a website that acts as an interactive storytelling platform, inviting viewers to experience the stories as they choose and in turn immerse themselves in an often overlooked culture and identity.

Puerto Ricans are the 2nd largest Latinx group living on the US mainland and yet most Americans know very little about who they are. Led by Puerto Rican artist Lares Feliciano, DiaspoRican is a multi-layered storytelling project that uses archival imagery, experimental animation, and oral history to explore the deeply personal and diverse stories that make up the Puerto Rican experience. Puerto Rican Coloradans will engage in deep-dive interviews about their experiences, their family histories, and their identity. These conversations will be recorded and incorporated into the sound design for a series of experimental animations that explore Puerto Rico’s identity, history, and future. The project will culminate in an interactive digital storytelling platform that includes audio, animations, and photography.
