Matthew Stearns is a North American community folk artist. His natural inclination was to follow a nontraditional path to his art education establishing close mentor relationships with teachers, family and experienced practitioners in his areas of interest; film, poetry and visual arts. It is through mentorship, experimentation and necessity Matthew's artistic medium of apron making developed. The Apron Artist Project began as a homework assignment, making one apron per month for ten years beginning January 2010. This collection of aprons created between January 2010 through December 2019 constitute a singular work; A Stitch In Time.

The Apron Artist Project continues to produce one apron per month, each decade constituting a singular work. Over the course of the previous decade the project expanded to include aprons of appreciation and community quilting projects. A full view of Matthew's work can be found on his website apronartist.com.
